GD to develop new 9-1-1 system for Fairfax County in Virginia, US

General Dynamics (GD) Information Technology has been contracted to develop, deploy and offer maintenance and support for a next-generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) solution for Fairfax County, Virginia, US.

As per the contract, GD will be replacing the county’s legacy emergency call-handling system with a secure, IP-based NG9-1-1 system.

The new system allows emergency service requests from the existing public networks through the latest and emerging modes of communication and devices.

To be developed based on NENA i3 standards, the new solution will be installed to support five primary and secondary answering points in the county.

Equipped with the latest technology, the new system will help improve cooperative processing and resource sharing capabilities between the five locations.

The IP-based NG9-1-1 systems will enable Fairfax County to receive and route the emergency 911 information from a range of sources.

The system also comes with mapping capabilities through GIS, and data for caller locations and integrates incoming 9-1-1 texts and 9-1-1 voice calls under one unified platform.

The company has to date deployed 50 E911 systems into service, provided integration for new narrowband, wide area, and trunked land mobile radio system.

It has also installed a similar solution for Morgan County, Ohio, US, with many advanced projects currently underway.
