Harris introduces InTouch RPC-200 smartphone for public safety

Harris has introduced InTouch RPC-200, a rugged smartphone for public safety Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks.

The new system features Android operating system to support BeOn push-to-talk (PTT) broadband application, while it can operate on both public safety band 14 LTE and commercial 2G/3G/4G cellular networks.

Optimized for critical operating environments, including immersion, drop, and extended temperature range, the smartphone can be used for mission-critical communications including, mission-critical PTT voice, data, video, location, text-based information and other future applications.

The InTouch RPC-200 system’s waterproof speaker and large PTT button provides noise-cancellation capability for on-scene high performance.

Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications president Steve Marschilok said, "InTouch is a compact device in a true rugged package that brings voice, critical video and situational information straight to the public safety user over both today’s commercial LTE networks and tomorrow’s Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network."

Users can also use the InTouch smartphone to download and install third-party applications as well as build and make applications with its latest generations of hardware and software technology.

The company is demonstrating the new solution at the ongoing Annual International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference and Law Enforcement Education and Technology Exposition at the San Diego Convention Center, held from 29 September to 3 October 2012.
