Implant Sciences’ trace detector system receives Russian regulatory approval

Implant Sciences’ QS-B220 explosives and drugs trace detector has been approved by the Russian regulator for deployment in transportation sectors including aviation, rail, and subways.

Further, the company’s QS-B220 and QS-H150 have been certified by the Customs Union Declaration of Conformity, which now enables sale of these systems to customers in Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan for the following five years, subject to US export authorisation.

Implant Sciences president and CEO Glenn Bolduc said: "We are pleased to have received these approvals, particularly the transportation approval for the QS-B220, which is the Russian equivalent of the TSA in the US.

"Although currently the US government, through the Department of Commerce – Bureau of Industry and Security, has placed a hold on the issuance of new export licenses authorising the export or re-export of items to Russia, this hold does not affect existing licenses issued by BIS.

"Implant Sciences currently holds export licenses for hundreds of systems to Russia, and we believe that these Russian approvals will have a long-term positive impact in terms of the opportunity in the Russian ETD market for our company."

Using Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS), the QS-B220 system will be able to detect and identify trace amounts of a range of military, commercial, and homemade explosives alongside illegal drugs.

Features of the QS-B220 include a radioactive material-free design, push-button maintenance and diagnostics, and a patented inCal internal automatic calibration system.

Further, the QS-H150 also uses the same IMS technology, and is aimed at offering very high levels of operational availability even in a wide range of temperatures and challenging environments, from humid jungles to dry, sand swept deserts.
