Smiths Detection to support explosives detection equipment at US airports

Smiths Detection has been awarded a contract by Leidos to provide supplies, parts and services for security equipments deployed at about 400 airports across the US.

As part of the four-year, multi-million dollar order, Smiths Detection will offer completely trained field support in addition to supplies and parts for its X-ray, advanced X-ray and explosives trace detection technology deployed at US airports.

Smiths Detection president Terry Gibson said the company aims to help customers protect travellers across the US and around the world.

"This contract underlines how we deliver on that commitment to long-term value by ensuring our technology meets the operational needs of our customers."

The latest order would further assist in ensuring airport checkpoint screening remains continuously active.

Technical training sessions will also be conducted at Smiths Detection’s Training & Service Center in Edgewood, Maryland, for new field staff deployed to carry out work under the contract.

The centre offers training and service support for consumers all through North, Central and South America on the full range of Smiths Detection’s chemical, biological, radiation, nuclear and explosives (CBRNE) detection and X-ray technologies.
