L-3 Communications to supply integrated C4ISR system for USCG’s fast response cutters

L-3 Communications has been awarded a $160m contract by Bollinger Shipyards to supply the integrated C4ISR system for the US Coast Guard’s (USCG) Sentinel-class fast response cutter (FRC).

The contract has nine years of performance period and covers 26 cutters.

Under the contract, L-3 will offer initial design upgrades for the FRC, namely antenna arrangement and analysis, exterior communications and other situational awareness enhancements.

The company will be responsible to deliver, install and support the integrated bridge, interior and exterior communications systems, and distributed navigation equipment.

Additionally, L-3 will complement the contract by providing training to the FRC crews at its site in Camden, New Jersey, as well offer a post delivery warranty support at each cutter’s homeport.

L-3 Communication Systems president John Mega said: “L-3 is excited to serve as the C4ISR integrator and provide our comprehensive suite of best-in-class systems on this important platform.

“The FRC is the newest generation of patrol cutter and plays a vital role in the USCG’s mission to protect our homeland.

“This award expands on L-3’s legacy of ISR integration and leverages our leadership in maritime communications for a wide range of vessels around the globe.”

The Phase II production work of the FRC will be carried out by L-3 Communication Systems-East (L-3 CS-East) in Camden, and L-3 Henschel in Ayer, Massachusetts, US.
