India’s Cochin Airport to deploy new robotic security system

The Cochin International Airport (Cial) in Kerala, India, is planning to deploy $1.9m high-end robotic security system to bolster its security potential.

Built by an undisclosed Canadian firm, the new system is scheduled for installation in October by an integrated team comprising agents from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Cial’s own security arm, fire and rescue force.

The system integrates a reusable threat containment vessel (TCV), which can enclose a blast of minimum 8kg of explosives and can even survive recurring explosions, according to Security Today.

If the suspected luggage is less than the 8kg limit, TCV’s smaller version, suspected luggage containment vessel, would be deployed.

In addition, the system comes with a remote mobile investigator (RMI)-9WT deployed by the Western police, fire departments, military, nuclear and industrial organisations.

The light-weight RMI-9WT is a multi-purpose, six-wheeled battery-operated vehicle with removable tracks for step-climbing potential, which is claimed to be perfect for the remote handling of ad hoc explosive devices, hazardous chemicals, radioactive materials, fire fighting, hostage, hijacking and other dangerous circumstances.
