Colombia selects Scanter radars for coastal surveillance

The Colombian Coast Guard has selected Terma’s Scanter 5000 radar, enabling the Coast Guard to detect all surface activity along the coast line.

Under the contract, Terma will provide Scanter 5000 X-band solid state radars, based on IALA V-128 level Advanced, for new coastal surveillance system for the Colombian Coast Guard.

Designed to detect very small objects, the radar can operate under all weather conditions including heavy rain.

The Scanter 5000 solid state radar can be used in vessel traffic service (VTS) and coastal surveillance applications.

Customers for the Scanter 5000 include Norwegian Coast Guard, Spanish Guardia Civil, Port of London and Port of Hong Kong Authorities.
Last year, the company developed next generation of solid state based radars, Scanter 5000 series, for coastal surveillance, vessel traffic services and airport surface movement radar applications.

Designed to replace Scanter 2001 series of magnetron based radars, the Scanter 5000 is coherent, pulse compression radar and uses Doppler enhanced processing (MTI) for improved detection of moving objects in clutter zones including sea and land.

Terma also introduced a new ET2 embedded tracker for the Scanter 5000 series of radar sensors for use in vessel traffic service (VTS) and coastal surveillance applications in August 2012.
