BMT, ARES to deliver nine vessels to Qatari Coast Guard

BMT and Turkey’s ARES Shipyard (ARES) have announced a new order for nine vessels from the Qatari Coast Guard.

The value of the order has not been disclosed.

The order was signed during the recent DIMDEX (Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference).

BMT managing director John Bonafoux said: “Our partnership with ARES goes from strength to strength and we’re very much looking forward to working with the team to deliver these vessels.”

ARES Shipyard chairman and executive director Kerim Kalafatoğlu said: “We’ve signed this new contract even while the previous contract is in force and deliveries are in progress; showing the client’s trust in ARES and our reliable program partners like BMT.”

The new order comprises three 48m ARES 150 HERCULES Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) and six 24m ARES 80 SAT Special Operations Support and Fast Attack Craft.

The ordered vessels are expected to be delivered by the end of 2020.

Earlier this month, BMT completed an upgrade of Single Point Mooring (SPM) Telemetry and Control Systems (SPM-TCS) for Terminales Marítimas Patagónicas S.A. (Termap).

The systems will help in offering real time operational and environmental data, as well as critical control functions that aid in managing the CALM (Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring) Buoys that operate at Termap’s Caleta Córdova and Caleta Olivia terminals.
