ChemImage to roll out new Agility dual band portable Raman Analyzer

ChemImage Sensor Systems (CISS) is planning to launch its new Agility dual band portable Raman Analyzer, which comes with dual excitation wavelength capability, at the SPIE Defense, Security and Sensing 2014 event in Maryland, US.

Developed in collaboration with BaySpec, Agility is claimed to be the first Raman Analyzer that enables operator to opt for an appropriate excitation wavelength for the sample matrix under analysis.

CISS business director, chief scientist Dr Matthew Nelson said that the company would discuss with user community about the product when launched at the DSS meeting on how it can meet their requirements for a portable point threat detection system.

"Addition of the Agility portable Raman Analyzer to the CISS portfolio provides a complement to our existing standoff sensor systems for the detection of explosives and illicit drugs," Nelson added.

The new tool also assists in minimising the effects of sample fluorescence and luminescence by setting excitation at 1,064nm when required, while sensitivity and sample throughput could be boosted by excitation at 532nm or 785nm.

According to BaySpec president and CEO William Yang, the collaboration would assist in offering instrument systems that provide real tools for law enforcement, checkpoint screening and forensic examination.

"Working with CISS to bring the capabilities of the Agility™ family of instruments to the defence, security and forensic detection markets is a partnership that is bringing dividends to both of our organisations," Yang added.
