US to supply border security mobile surveillance sensor security system to Egypt

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential $100m foreign military sale (FMS) of a border security mobile surveillance sensor security system and associated equipment to Egypt.

Under the sale, the Government of Egypt has requested for procurement and construction of one commercial off-the-shelf border security mobile surveillance sensor security system.

The system will include the following sub-systems: mobile surveillance sensor towers, mobile command and control (C2) systems, a regional C2 system, voice/data communications equipment, spare parts and support equipment.

Additional items included in the proposed sale package are personnel training, training equipment, publications and technical documentation, US Government and contractor technical and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics and programme support. 

Intended for the Egyptian Border Guard Forces, this mobile surveillance sensor security system will provide Egypt with advanced capabilities intended to bolster its border surveillance capabilities along its border with Libya and elsewhere.

The Egyptian Border Guard Forces currently lack any remote detection capability along unpatrolled areas of the country’s borders.

This system would provide an early warning capability to allow for faster response times to mitigate threats to the border guards and the civilian population.

The principal contractor for the sale is yet to be determined.
