Implant to supply QS-B220 desktop explosives detectors to second Belgian airport

Implant Sciences has been selected to supply 13 of its QS-B220 desktop explosives trace detectors to a second airport in Belgium.

The company has secured orders to supply up to 500 explosives trace detection (ETD) systems to the international airports across five countries in Europe, in a span of approximately two months.

Implant Sciences Global Sales and Marketing vice-president Dr Darryl Jones said: "Implant Sciences has again been selected as the optimal vendor for ETDs in a competitive bidding process in the EU.

Implant Sciences CEO Dr Bill McGann said: "We believe that, with every tender we are awarded, Implant Sciences is changing not only our company’s trajectory, but also the shape of the ETD marketplace."

The company had sold 20 QS-B220 detectors to Belgium for aviation security in May this year.

Incorporating the company’s patented non-radioactive ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) analysis technology, the QS-B220 systems perform real-time detection and identification of trace amounts of different military, commercial and homemade explosives, as well as illicit drugs.

The trace detection systems feature a radioactive material-free design, easy-to-use touchscreen user interface, push-button maintenance and diagnostics and a patented inCal internal automatic calibration system, which prevents errors that could result from an uncalibrated instrument.

With significantly lower maintenance requirements than its competing systems, the QS-B220 can be deployed for a much lower total cost of ownership than other approved products.
