US Transportation Security Administration implements counter terrorism initiative

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has implemented Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) If You See Something, Say Something initiative to raise public awareness against terrorism-related crimes.

The new national campaign will see the citizens playing an important role in reporting suspicious activities, behaviors or situations that may suggest acts of terrorism.

TSA said in a statement: "TSA counts on the travelling public to report unattended bags or packages, individuals in possession of a threatening item, a person trying to enter a restricted area or similar suspicious activities at airports, train stations, bus stops and ports.

"Suspicious behaviour and situations must not be based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation or personal beliefs, thoughts, ideas, expressions or associations."

The ‘If You See Something, Say Something’ campaign has been adopted by law enforcement agencies, transportation systems, universities, sports leagues, and local and state governments in a nation-wide mission to counter terrorism.

The campaign was originally implemented by New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, but later licensed to DHS.

Earlier this year, US Secretary of Homeland Security Johnson re-launched the campaign with re-designed imagery as well as a new website.
