US DHS to evaluate ORS’ MobiLab ES checkpoint security scanner

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) has agreed to evaluate One Resonance Sensors’ MobiLab ES checkpoint security scanner.

Valued at $3,003,383, the agreement funds the evaluation of the scanner that rapidly screens electronic devices for concealed explosives.

The evaluation of the scanner will be carried out at a number of government facilities in the US and Europe.

ORS co-founder and CEO Dr Pablo Prado said: "MobiLab® ES provides a compact and powerful solution for screening electronic devices.

"We are very pleased to be working with DHS to evaluate our technology, which we believe will significantly increase airport security while minimising passenger delays and disruptions."

Features of the system include a compact tabletop scanner, single-touch operation that requires minimal training, self-calibrating and detection of explosives irrespective of their configuration.

Using chemical-specific radio-frequency technology, the MobiLab ES uses chemical-specific radio-frequency technology to provide safe and fast detection of concealed explosive materials.

With the screening system, airport security checkpoints will be enabled to inspect electronic items for explosives in seconds eliminating the need to power on the devices.

The assessment follows after new emergency airport security measures were implemented last year.

The measures require travellers on selected flights to power up electronic devices as a part of the security screening process.
