UAE seeks training for Presidential Guard from US

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale (FMS) of blanket order training and associated training and logistical support to UAE.

Under the estimated $150m sale, UAE has requested a possible sale for follow on US Marine Corps blanket order training, training support, and other related elements of programme support for the UAE Presidential Guard Command.

The sale contributes to the foreign policy and national security of the US by improving the security of a friendly country which serves as an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.

In addition to supporting vital US forces stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, the UAE plays a vital role in supporting US regional interests.
The proposed sale will also provide US Marine Corps training for counterterrorism, counter-piracy, critical infrastructure protection, and national defence of the UAE’s Presidential Guard.

Currently, the Presidential Guard uses training skills alongside US forces mainly in Afghanistan while the training also provides engagement opportunities through military exercises, training, and common equipment.
