Taser bags LAPD order for 3,000 TASER Smart Weapons

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has awarded an order to Taser for 3,130 X26P Smart Weapons to arm its front line officers in a bid to bolster public safety.

Initial order involved upgrading about 2,270 older TASER weapons to the new TASER X26P Smart Weapon along with the TASER Assurance Plan.

Los Angeles Police Department chief of police Charlie Beck said: "In addition to these new TASER deployments, we plan to issue a body-worn camera and a TASER device to every officer.

"It is our goal to make these important tools available to every front line officer over the next few years."

The second order involves an additional expansion of 860 TASER X26P Smart Weapons as part of the launch of 860 body cameras accompanied by the new Officer Safety Plan, which includes regular hardware advancements of both cameras and TASER systems.

As part of the order placed in the fourth quarter of 2014, Taser delivered 2,270 units, while the delivery under the second order, including 860 TASER devices is expected to be completed during the first half of 2015.
