Saab unveils new maritime surveillance aircraft at Farnborough 2012

Saab has introduced its new Saab 340 maritime security aircraft (MSA) at the Farnborough International Airshow, which is being held from 9-15 July 2012 in UK.

Designed for maritime security and safety missions including piracy, terrorism, smuggling, trafficking, oil pollution and other illegal activates, the aircraft can provide surveillance and rapid response capability to protect territorial waters.

Saab´s business area Support and Services vice president marketing for Airborne Surveillance Rickard Hjelmberg said, "With the 340 MSA, Saab has a strong market position with a highly capable and cost effective solution."

The reliable multi-purpose aircraft, Saab 340 MSA provides surveillance, search and rescue, transport and MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation) capabilities.

Capable of operating independently or in conjunction with other marine and land-based assets, the aircraft can also provide detection, classification and identification capabilities.

Equipped with sensors, the Saab 340 multi-mission has a maximum endurance of seven hours and a range in excess of 1,300nm.

In addition to high quality 360° rotating Telephonics radar and FLIR Systems electro optical sensor, the Saab 340 aircraft is equipped with multi mission system, automatic identification system, optional self-protection system (SPS) and SATCOM and data link solutions.

The Saab 340 maritime security aircraft is currently in service with the Japan Coast Guard for conducting variety of mission including local patrols as well as deployments to remote out-stations in Japan’s archipelago in the Pacific Ocean.
