Raytheon to develop cyber maneuver technology

Raytheon has been awarded a contract for development of a cyber manoeuvring technology for the US Army’s Morphing Network Assets to Restrict Adversarial Reconnaissance (MORPHINATOR) programme.

The technology, developed as part of a $3.1m contract, will be used by the army to dynamically alter aspects and configurations of networks, hosts and applications, making them undetectable and unpredictable for an adversary, but manageable for network administrators in high-threat environments.

Raytheon Network Centric Systems business Trusted Network Systems director Jack Donnelly said the cyber manoeuvre technology aims to put computer network defence technology into a proactive state, thereby shifting the advantage away from the attacker.

"By constantly changing the characteristics of the networks it resides on, MOPRHINATOR provides a more robust and trusted networking solution," Donnelly added.

The contract was awarded by the US Army’s Communications, Electronics, Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC), Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate, and work will be carried out in Florida and Maryland, US.

MORPHINATOR is designed to be used in union with other existing security devices to provide an active defence approach to information assurance.
