Rapiscan rolls out new CounterBomber threat detection system

Rapiscan Systems has bolstered its security technology portfolio with the launch of a new radar-based CounterBomber threat-detection system.

The new automated, stand-off detection system is capable of detecting concealed person-borne threats including suicide vests and weapons, at stand-off distances.

The video-steered radar technology integrated within the system, which uses an optional remote networking capability, allows detecting threats hundreds of meters away.

Rapiscan Systems North America president Brad Buswell said: "We believe CounterBomber is superior to any other comparable system on the market and provides a tangible and practical solution to the more than 3,500 suicide bombings that have taken place over the past three decades.

"The solution detects threats with tremendous accuracy, but also is intuitive to operate, allowing easy deployment in a variety of situations and threat levels."

Mainly aimed at detecting suicide vests, the CounterBomber system has the potential to identify other concealed person-borne threats including handguns, machine pistols, pipe bombs, and grenades.

Extensively tested by the US Government, the new system is capable of being deployed at government buildings, transit systems, and military installations that are targets for terrorist attacks.

Buswell added: "The addition of CounterBomber to our product offering further supports this mission and allows us to provide customers with an even greater range of products to support their unique needs."

Once being commissioned, the CounterBomber system can even automatically assess approaching personnel for concealed threats, without requiring operator interpretation, while its plug-and-play functionality allows rapid and secure integration into the clients’ command and control (C2) network.
