LRAD to supply 500X system to Middle East country

LRAD Corporation has received a contract from an unidentified country in the Middle East to supply LRAD 500X systems for installation on its police vehicles.

The LRAD 500X systems, which produce a sound pattern that provides clear communication over long distances, will be used by police and civil defence units to provide critical information and instructions to the public.

The LRAD 500X will enable long-range communications to avoid close encounters that escalate tensions and aggressive confrontations.

LRAD Corporation president and CEO Tom Brown said that the LRAD 500X has been designed to provide critical communication capability at distance with civilians and hostile forces for military and law enforcement personnel.

"Using long-range communication to resolve uncertain situations peacefully saves lives on both sides of the Long Range Acoustic Device," Brown added.

In addition to ensuring voice commands, the LRAD 500X produces nearly 100% intelligible voice transmissions beyond 1.5m to enable clear, authoritative voice commands and deterrent tones.

The lightweight LRAD 500X system also provides hailing and warning capability for security personnel and has also been selected as acoustic hailing device (AHD) by the US Navy and US Army for small vessels and vehicles.

The contract is valued at $378,000.

Military and law enforcement agencies of over 60 nations worldwide have deployed a variety of LRAD systems and support equipment.
