Jordan seeks 35m coastal patrol boats from US

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale (FMS) to Jordan for two coastal patrol boats and related equipment.

Under the $80m FMS deal, Jordan has requested for two 35m-long coastal patrol boats with two MSI Defence Systems’ Seahawk A2 DS30M-30mm Gun Weapon Systems with MK44 Bushmaster Cannons, 1,140 rounds of 30mm Target-Practice-Tracer (TP-T) ammunition, 4,020 rounds of 30mm High Explosive Incendiary with Tracer (HEI-T) ammunition.

The sale also includes 60 rounds of 30mm inert dummy ammunition and two chaff systems, spare and repair parts, support equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, US Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistical and programme support.

It is expected that the proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the US by helping to improve the security of a partner which remains a key force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.

The patrol boats will help Jordan to strengthen its ability to defend its territorial waters.

The principal contractor has not been selected yet, but will soon be determined during negotiations.
