Italy to receive Stan Patrols 5509 ships from Damen

Damen Shipyards and Cantiere Navale Vittoria have been awarded a contract to develop two Stan Patrols 5509 to the Italian Guardia di Finanza, also known as Italian law enforcement agency.

Under the contract, Damen Technical Cooperation Package will develop two 5509 vessels, the latest model of a series Stan Patrols, using a pre-fabricated shipbuilding kit while working with Cantiere Navale Vittoria.

The two ships will boost Italian law enforcement agency’s patrolling capability in the Italian territorial waters and in the entire Mediterranean sea.

The Stan Patrol features a sea- keeping performance, which is provided by the Delft University of Technology following intense research.

Capable of cruising at a speed up to 28k even in heavy seas and strong winds, the vessel reduces Patrols fuel consumption and emissions due to its superior motion behaviour and a much lower resistance.

Additionally, the ships will be fitted with two rigid inflatable boats to provide more flexibility to the unit as well as benefits in cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability.
