Iraq seeks aviation sustainment support from US

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale (FMS) for aviation sustainment support, on-the-job maintenance training and maintenance to Iraq.

Under the estimated $500m sale, Iraq has requested five years of contractor logistics support for its Bell 407, OH-58, and Huey II aircraft for the Iraq Aviation Command, in addition to associated maintenance support, personnel training and training equipment.

Additionally, US will offer publications and technical documentation, site surveys, life support costs, Quality Assurance Teams, the US Government and contractor technical, logistics, and engineering support services, and other associated elements of logistics support.

The potential sale would pay out for the foreign policy and national security of the US by assisting in bolstering the security of a strategic partner.

Further, the deal would facilitate the Government of Iraq in maintaining operational capabilities of its aircraft fleets.

Bell Helicopter Textron has been named as the prime contractor for the programme, with no further offset deals planned in relation to the potential sale.
