Harris to provide Falcon radio system to nations in Africa

Harris has been awarded contracts to deliver Falcon radio systems to two nations in Central and East Africa.

Under the total $12m contracts, Harris will supply Falcon tactical radio systems and field support with line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight voice and data communications capability to armed forces of countries in Africa.

The company will deliver Falcon III RF-7800V VHF and Falcon II RF-5800H HF tactical radio systems as well as training, installation and field support services.

The orders also includes base stations, vehicular systems and manpack and handheld radios which are vital on a range of missions.

Harris RF Communications president, international business Brendan O?Connell said, "The Falcon radios will provide security forces in these countries with combat proven, high-performance tactical voice and data communications."

With 30-108MHz frequency range, the RF-7800V radios have been designed to provide time-critical BMS reports with simultaneous networked voice and data communications to multiple users while supporting data rates up to 192Kbps.

Capable of providing beyond line-of-sight terrestrial voice and data communications, the RF-5800H-MP features third generation-automatic link establishment, integrated data link protocols and embedded GPS receivers to enable warfighter to stay connected even in the harshest conditions.
