Exelis demonstrates Signal Sentry 1000 technology capability

Exelis has successfully completed planned field testing of Signal Sentry 1000 product at the Vidsel Test Range in Sweden.

During the testing, the product successfully detected and located the jamming source using an array of eight sensors.

Capable of detecting and locating global positioning system (GPS) interference sources in 3-D by using longitude, latitude and altitude, the product can be used by law enforcement to protect GPS signal-dependent critical infrastructures.

Exelis Geospatial Systems precision instruments and positioning, navigation and timing vice president and general manager Mark Pisani said that the company is planning to evolve the technology for military customers.

"Exelis developed Signal Sentry 1000 to help protect critical infrastructure and to deliver intelligence to law enforcement operations that depend upon GPS availability," Pisani added.

Developed as a threat-detection sensors network, which forms a part of a centralised server executing Exelis-developed proprietary location algorithms, the Signal Sentry 1000 technology provides location information and actionable intelligence for users to determine an interference-mitigation plan.

In order to automatically sense and locate any intentional or unintentional GPS jamming source, the sensors can be strategically installed across critical infrastructure including shipping ports, utilities and government facilities.
