Damen to supply coastal patrol craft to Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard

Damen Shipyards has received a contract to supply a fleet of coastal patrol crafts to the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard.

The contract, which follows a four-year acquisition programme, includes four Damen Stan Patrol 5009 coastal patrol vessels, two Damen Fast Crew Supply 5009 utility vessels, and six Damen Interceptor DI 1002 boats.

Damen will supply a complete package of vessels to help augment the country’s maritime security and enable establishment of the foundations of a Maritime Security Wall.

This will eventually result in creating and sustaining an effective presence in all tiers of Trinidad and Tobago’s maritime domain.

Equipped with an advanced surveillance system, the Stan Patrol 5009 vessels are designed to patrol coastal waters and are also capable of operating in Trinidad and Tobago’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

The 51m-long, 9m wide vessel can travel at speeds in excess of 28k, with range exceeds 2500NM, and has a unique Sea-Axe design to enhance seakeeping in rough waters.

The vessel deploys an on-board 11m interceptor and a short-range 7.5m rigid hull inflatable boat.

Having speeds in excess of 20k and range surpassing 3000nm, the Fast Crew Supply 5009 utility vessels can be used for a range of missions including support of interceptor operations, disaster relief, search and rescue, as well as limited coastal patrol.

The 11m-long Interceptor DI 1002 boats has a speed of more than 53k, and can embark on and deploy from the SPas and FCS acting as a force multiplier.

Apart from Trinidad and Tobago, Damen-built vessels are also used by the Coast Guards of the US, Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Jamaica, Barbados and the Netherlands.
