AS&E to supply three Z Portal systems for Middle East customer

American Science and Engineering (AS&E) has received a follow-on contract to supply three Z Portal multi-view X-ray screening systems to protect a critical infrastructure facility in the Middle East.

Under the contract, awarded by an undisclosed customer, AS&E will deliver three Z Portal screening systems to scan vehicles and trucks to detect explosive threats and contraband, prior to entering high-risk facilities.

AS&E’s President and CEO Anthony Fabiano said that the company will provide comprehensive inspection of vehicles for the customer to accommodate the rapid growth in cargo traffic at their critical infrastructure facility.

"With this follow-on order, three additional cargo lanes will be secured to provide multi-view, drive-through inspection of vehicles and cargo entering the facility. This follow-on order attests to our customer’s satisfaction with AS&E’s advanced security solutions," Fabiano added.

The Z Portal has been designed to multi-view, drive-through screening for left, right, and top-down imaging of cars, vans, trucks, and their cargo.

The compact design of the comprehensive screening system enables its use in high-traffic locations with space constraints and a high-throughput requirement and is safe for drivers, operators, cargo, and the environment.

Available in two sizes, one smaller size for passenger vehicles and other for large trucks, buses, and cargo vehicles, the system provides superior detection capability of explosives, drugs, stowaways, and other contraband.

The relocatable screening system uses patented Z Backscatter technology and currently is in service with the US Department of Defense, US Customs and Border Protection, Abu Dhabi Customs, and Nato member nations.
