AS&E receives detection systems maintenance contract from undisclosed customer

American Science and Engineering (AS&E) has been awarded a contract by an unidentified customer to provide service and maintenance of its fleet of AS&E detection systems.

Under the $19.9m contract, AS&E will provide service and maintenance and spare parts in support of the x-ray detection systems for the customer.

AS&E president and CEO Anthony Fabiano said, "With our growing installed base, AS&E’s service teams are deployed across the globe, ensuring that our systems are maintained and serviced in the most timely and effective manner possible." AS&E products include personnel and passenger screening systems, baggage screening systems for facility and aviation security, and cargo inspection systems for port and border security.

AS&E systems assist in combating terrorism and use X-ray threat detection for plastic explosives, plastic weapons, liquid explosives, dirty bombs and nuclear devices.

The systems are also used to counter trade fraud, drug smuggling, weapon smuggling, illegal immigration, and people smuggling while protecting high-threat facilities.

AS&E customers include government agencies, border authorities, military bases, airports and corporations across the globe, including the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), US Department of Defense (DoD).

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), NATO, UK Border Agency (UKBA), Hong Kong Customs, and Abu Dhabi Customs also use the company’s systems.

Recently, the company has received a $34.4m contract from an undisclosed customer to support its fleet of AS&E detection systems.
