SAIC unveils IWASS for security applications

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) has unveiled the integrated wide area surveillance system (IWASS), intended for border surveillance, force protection, critical asset and infrastructure, and special event security applications.

Integrated with state-of-the-art commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, the turnkey surveillance security system is flexible and scalable for a wide variety of security applications and provides an uninterrupted surveillance and situational awareness for the users.

The system features an automated security solution to provide capabilities to predict, deter, detect, track, identify, classify, respond to, and resolve illegal incursions.

SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager John Thomas said that the IWASS was a full suite of electronic surveillance and security solutions.

"With its ease of use, low operational costs, and minimal carbon footprint, it is well positioned to meet customer border surveillance and other critical security missions now and in the future," Thomas added.

Powered by solar batteries, the IWASS human-machine interface features a 360-degree persistent surveillance radar, an electro-optical/infra-red sensor suite and requires minimal training.

The system can also be configurable with multiple external power sources such as grid, generator, or fuel cell to provide real-time and archived situational awareness.

The network independence and open architecture of the IWASS enables coverage up to 1,2070m and is easily configurable with other sensor technology.
