US Coast Guard seeks RFP for new fleet of cutter boats-large

The US Coast Guard has sought a request for proposal (RFP) for design, construction and support of a new fleet of cutter boats-large (CB-L).

The CB-Ls will replace the current fleet of 36 cutter boats that operate aboard the Coast Guard Service’s 210-ft medium endurance cutters, 225-ft seagoing buoy tenders, and cutters Alex Haley and Mackinaw.

The Coast Guard intends to award one firm fixed-price indefinite delivery, indefinite contract.

The contract will consist of a minimum initial delivery order of two CB-Ls and associated outfit, parts and logistics information.

The deal also allows purchase of up to 46 boats over five years. It is valued at a total maximum of $20m.

Proposals have been sought until 2 March, with boat required to be delivered within one year from the date of the order.

Coast Guard deputy programme manager for boats acquisition Cmdr. David Obermeier said: “The existing boats on these four classes of cutters are no longer sustainable, since the manufacturer went out of business. The new CB-L will meet this operational need.”
