Ultra Electronics, Liquid Robotics develop new maritime security Solution

Liquid Robotics and Ultra Electronics USSI have jointly developed a long duration, maritime security solution for defence applications.

The cost-effective surveillance solution integartes a Liquid Robotics-built Wave Glider wave powered ocean robot with Ultra Electronics USSI’s advanced acoustic sensing and signal processing to provide a persistent, best-of-breed, surveillance capability.

Designed and manufactured by Ultra Electronics USSI, the Sentinel Passive Acoustic Sensor helps address the critical need for affordable, long duration, maritime surveillance of the marine protected areas (MPAs), exclusion economic zones (EEZs), ports and coastlines.

The Wave Glider has been designed to operate 24×7, through all weather conditions while reducing the risk and costs to long duration maritime security.

To provide real time maritime domain awareness, Liquid Robotics’ Wave Gliders will host the Sentinel Passive Acoustic Sensors alongside additional weather, optical, communications and computing resources.

Scalable and configurable to meet the end user’s operational requirements covering a broad range of mission applications, the solution can be used for various applications including area surveillance, perimeter trip wire notification, marine mammal monitoring and data collection, environmental data collection and defence and military mission capability sets.

The sensor/software suite can acoustically detect, track and form contact reports on waterborne targets that are transmitted to a command and control node on shore, ship or aircraft platform.
