TASER to deliver X2 smart weapons for Massachusetts State Police and California Highway Patrol

TASER International, a global manufacturer of electrical weapons, body cameras and digital evidence management tools, has secured a contract to deliver its X2 smart weapons for Massachusetts State Police and California Highway Patrol.

As per the terms of the deal, the company will supply 400 TASER X2 Smart Weapons for the Massachusetts State Police and a total of 369 X2s for the California Highway Patrol.

TASER International CEO and co-founder Rick Smith said: “We believe these key state police agencies have made an important move toward a world where every officer has the best technology and training to minimise the chances of a deadly encounter.

“These actions continue to fulfill our mission to make a TASER CEW available to every officer, so they have the best options available to avoid injury or death.”

Deliveries under the order will be carried out by TASER by the fourth quarter of this year.

Earlier this month, the company released the signal performance power magazine (SPPM), which is a smart battery that works with TASER's X2 and X26P smart weapon.

The SPPM is designed to alert Axon Body 2, Axon Flex, Axon Flex 2, and Axon Fleet compatible cameras that a TASER smart weapon within signal range is armed, the trigger is pulled, or its arc switch is activated.

The cameras have the potential to recognise smart weapon's status change and start recording. The SPPM is compatible with the TASER's X2 and X26P Smart Weapon.
