San Francisco Police Department orders Taser body-worn video cameras

Taser International has been awarded a contract from the San Francisco Police Department to deliver 160 AXON body-worn video cameras in addition to a multi-year subscription to EVIDENCE.com.

Deliveries under the contract are set to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2014.

The latest order comes after the US agency tested several cameras under a pilot programme to help boost transparency and efficiency with securely supervising their digital evidence.

Powered by a pocketsize battery pack, Taser’s small, yet highly visible Axon cameras can be affixed to sunglasses, a cap, a shirt collar, or a head mount.

When activated, cameras will start capturing a wide-angle, full-colour view in front of officer, which will then be automatically uploaded via a docking station to EVIDENCE.com, a cloud-based storage and management system, where they can be accessed for review.

Taser claims that the video files stored online or on the Axon video camera are safe and cannot be meddled in.

EVIDENCE.com is aimed at helping police in capturing, managing, and sharing their digital information without the difficulty in addition to offering improved transparency alongside seamless integration with the Axon body-worn video cameras.
