OSI Systems to support Rapiscan x-ray cargo inspection systems

US-based company OSI Systems’ security division has secured a new service contract to deliver continued service and support for Rapiscan high energy x-ray cargo inspection systems.

Valued at approximately $6m, the new multi-year contract has been awarded by an international customer.

The x-ray cargo inspection systems are currently being used for border security.

OSI Systems chairman and chief executive officer Deepak Chopra said: “We are pleased to announce this award from a customer who has operated these systems for several years.

“The continued confidence by this customer in us to provide border security at this critical location is a testament to our proven technology and the outstanding service and support we provide.”.

The Eagle high energy X-ray systems offered by Rapiscan Systems are designed to meet the complete range of cargo inspection applications.

The solutions feature linear accelerator X-ray sources that can penetrate even the densest cargo to produce high-quality images that allow inspectors to detect hidden contraband, including weapons, explosives, weapons of mass destruction, drugs and undeclared goods.

In October this year, the company’s security division received a contract, worth approximately $21m, for the supply of x-ray based cargo and vehicle inspection systems.

Awarded by an international customs agency, the contract included a multi-year service agreement for integration and follow-on maintenance and support.
