Northrop to install Crossmatch L Scan 1000 palm scanners across UK

Northrop Grumman has selected Crossmatch Livescan devices to upgrade the existing criminal booking solution for the UK Home Office Forensic and Biometric Interim Capability programme (FABrIC).

As part of the new upgrade, more than 375 existing enrolment and capture stations across the UK will be replaced with Crossmatch L Scan 1000 palm scanners by the end of this year.

The Crossmatch Livescan devices have been designed for capturing fingerprint and palm print images and can easily acquire upper, lower and writer’s palms, flats and rolls.

The L Scan palm scanner’s FlexFlat and FlexRoll features allow the capture of fingerprint images regardless of positioning on the platen, Crossmatch stated.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems lead executive Ian Menzies said: "The Crossmatch Livescan solution has been successfully used in delivering the capability to the Home Office over the past 16 years, and the new scanners will provide the police agencies with an improved level of performance.

"We look forward to continuing our relationship with Crossmatch and the ongoing success of the new L Scan 1000 palm scanners."

The upgrade to the high-speed scanner technology will allow it to capture at 1,000 pixels-per-inch image resolution.

In 2000, Northrop Grumman replaced the ink-and-paper method of capturing fingerprints with a Livescan solution from Crossmatch.

Based in the US, Crossmatch provides biometric identity management and secure authentication solutions for financial, retail, commercial, government, law enforcement and military markets.
