Logos to develop hostile fire detection and location technology for US ARL

The US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) has awarded a contract to Logos Technologies for the development and deployment of technology capable of detecting and locating hostile gunfire and explosive denotations.

Integrating high speed cameras, the Optical Gunfire, Rockets and Explosive Flash Detection (OGRE) system can capture the signature of a fired weapon or explosion and offer accurate source coordinates to troops on ground.

Further, the OGRE is integrated with an existing acoustic sensor developed by the Army’s Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC).

Dubbed Serenity, the blended OGRE-acoustic unit will be responsible for developing a dual-threat-validation process that considerably trims down fake positive identifications.

Serenity works in collaboration with full-motion video and wide-area surveillance sensors to situate and make out the locations of hostile fire.

Further, the Serenity system will be incorporated with Logos’ aerostat-based Kestrel sensor system, which would allow operators to not only view live attacks, while also access forensic playback when required.

Mainly aimed at protect forward-deployed bases, the serenity will detect flash events such as rocket and mortar launches and explosive detonations, as well as offering forces real-time operational intelligence and allowing them to respond rapidly.

According to Logos Technologies, the OGRE system’s can also be integrated into unmanned and fixed-wing platforms, which would allow aircraft to strongly support land forces even in the event of heavy enemy fire.
