Lockheed migrates NGA’s Map of the World application to cloud

Lockheed Martin has successfully migrated National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) interactive Map of the World to Amazon Web Services’ Commercial Cloud Services (C2S) environment.

The latest move, executed as part of the Lockheed Martin’s Geospatial-Intelligence Visualization Services (GVS) programme, makes NGA the first intelligence agency to host an operational capability within the cloud environment.

Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions Analysis & Mission Solutions vice-president said: "Deploying geospatial mission applications and software to a commercial cloud environment allows the Map of the World to operate with more agility and efficiency.

"This accomplishment demonstrates the power of what can be done by leveraging cloud technologies with mission driven software.

"It shows how we can further enhance geospatial capabilities in the intelligence and DOD community."

Aimed at both learners and geospatial-intelligence professionals, the new platform enables exploring constantly-updated content and link natural and man-made features on, above and below the Earth to intelligence surveillance.

The platform also allows users to look for objects such as bridges or railroad depots and the location of the objects, in addition to look for the intelligence integrated within each object.

The latest deployment also involved the system’s certification in compliance with ICD-503 regulations, which set policy for the intelligence community’s security risk management for IT systems.
