KEYW rolls out Aeroptic aerial mapping system for civilian and military applications

KEYW has rolled out the new Aeroptic Mapping System, which is an integrated, airborne system aimed at offering high-resolution, wide-area map data for both civilian and military applications.

KEYW Surveillance and Exploration Systems executive vice president Kevin Gunde said: "Aeroptic is a commercially available mapping system that supports every mission in which the National Guard engages, ranging from incident assessment and disaster response in Domestic Operations (DOMOPS) to reconnaissance and situational awareness on the OCONUS battlefield.

"Aeroptic can be deployed on a variety of fixed- and rotor-wing platforms, including the National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk."

The new light-weight system, capable of being deployed in harsh environments, integrates advanced components such as a full-colour electro-optical (EO) camera, GPS/IMU, and user-friendly geo-processing software based on non-proprietary open standards.

The system is also equipped with a rapid-refresh EO camera that assists in capturing quality imagery by deploying advanced noise reduction, latest image sharpening algorithms and lenses with modern configurations.

Further, the interchangeable lenses enable multiple focal length options to assist the Aeroptic camera in acquiring high-resolution visible-band imagery with sub-meter geo-positional accuracy from diverse flight altitudes without assessed ground control points.

GUnde added: "No expertise in GIS or cartography is needed to make full use of the Aeroptic system.

"With just eight hours of training, the typical user can produce content-rich image maps ready for distribution within minutes after acquisition."

In addition, the new system comes with an option to process imagery in the air or on the ground and generates unspecified, wide-area ortho-mosaic maps in near real time.
