Indian Coast Guard vessels to receive navigation systems from Northrop

Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit has received a contract from the Marine Electricals to supply advanced shipboard navigation systems for 20 Indian Coast Guard’s fast patrol vessels.

Under the contract, Northrop will provide a navigation package which includes VisionMaster Total Watch multifunction displays, electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS), autopilot, magnetic compass and the new NAVIGAT 3000 fibre optic gyrocompass.

The company will also provide spares, factory testing and engineering support services for the fast patrol vessels, which will be built at Cochi Shipyard, as part of the contract.

Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine managing director Alan Dix said, "These integrated bridge system components will provide the Indian Coast Guard the most advanced shipboard navigation systems available today."

NAVIGAT 3000 fibre optic gyrocompass has been designed to provide all motion data required for the ship’s steering for faster operation.

Using reduced size, weight, noise and power, the system enhances reliability, dynamic angular rate and redundancy with full set of navigation data.

Integrated bridge systems and components have been delivered by Sperry Marine to naval and coast guard vessels in several countries including the Indian Navy.

Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2012 and continue into 2015.
