Harris to provide tactical communication systems to US DHS

Harris has been awarded $7m contract to deliver public safety and tactical communications systems under the Homeland Security Department’s (DHS) $3bn Tactical Communications (TacCom) contract vehicle.

Under the five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, Harris will deliver public safety and tactical communications systems for US DHS and its component agencies, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the US Coast Guard.

The company will provide Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack tactical radios for Coast Guard fleet-wide deployment to provide interoperable tactical communications with local, state and federal agencies, as well as the Department of Defense.

Designed to operate multiple waveforms for narrowband line-of-sight voice and data communications, the AN/PRC-117G radio also provides beyond-line-of-sight satellite communications, communication with public safety agencies, and wideband data communications.

The company will also provide standards-based P25 land mobile radio system for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Center for domestic preparedness (CDP) under teh terms of the contract.

Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications president Steve Marschilok said: “The Coast Guard is using this important procurement vehicle to deploy Falcon III radios, while DHS is rapidly implementing a Harris P25 system.”

“The TacCom contract highlights Harris’ unique capability to deliver powerful solutions that integrate tactical and land mobile radio systems and bridge the needs of civilian and tactical responders,” Marschilok added.

Integrated with Falcon III AN/PRC-152A wideband handheld radios, the AN/PRC-117G will provide end-to-end wideband capabilities for transmitting voice, video and data across Coast Guard tactical teams.
