DSIC to provide detection systems to US DHS

The US Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) has awarded a research and development contract to Decision Sciences International Corporation (DSIC) for advanced technology demonstration (ATD) capability support.

Under the $2.7m contract, DSIC will support multi-mode passive detection system’s (MMPDS) government testing to validate the effectiveness and readiness to move the product into production stage.

Following the testing, DHS’ DNDO will evaluate the MMPDS, as per the terms of the contract.

DSIC president and CEO Dr. Stanton Sloane said, "MMPDS is designed to support DNDO’s objective of preventing nuclear terrorism with technology capable of rapidly screening cargo and passenger vehicles for both shielded and unshielded nuclear threats at land and sea ports."

MMPDS has been designed to deliver safe, effective and reliable automated scanning to rapidly detect shielded and unshielded nuclear and radiological threats hidden in cargo, vehicles and other conveyances.

With near-zero false alarms, the MMPDS accurate, efficient, safe, modular and cost-effective cargo scanning solution uses latent gamma-ray technology to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the detector.

Capable of operating either by integrating within existing infrastructure or as a stand-alone application, MMPDS can support critical infrastructure, ports, borders, and air and rail operations by detecting and deterring nuclear terrorist threats.

Decision Sciences’ MMPDS uses advanced proprietary software and algorithms to track muons through even heavily shielded materials and computes and record deflection signatures as the object passes through it.
