Cobham to support KNPA’s Surion helicopter programme

Cobham has been awarded a contract by the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) to provide audio/radio communication package in support of new twin-engine Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) Surion utility helicopter.

Korean Aerospace Industries purchasing manager Chul-Shik Hong said, "The communications package from Cobham Aerospace Communications offered the best combination of robust performance, aftermarket support, and overall value."

Under the contract, Cobham will provide several other integrated products and associated antennas which include CVN-251 navigation receivers equipped with VHF omni-directional radio (VOR) and instrument landing system (ILS) antennas for installation onto Surion aircraft.

The company will also deliver marker beacon antennas, VHF and UHF radio antennas and TETRA Trunked Radio System (TRS) antennas to KAI.

Cobham Aerospace Communications general manager John Payne said that the Cobham’s standard-fit communications package for the Surion aircraft will assist the KNPA with country-wide law enforcement mission.

Jointly developed by Eurocopter and KAI, the Surion aircraft is expected to be operational with the KNPA in 2014.

The aircraft will feature Cobham’s lightweight and compact audio/radio component suite, which include the RT-5000 transceiver and C-5000 radio controller package, to provide maximum signal range and clarity.

Additional features of the aircraft include the ACP51/53 Digital Audio Control System (DACS) to distribute and control audio to and from all transceivers, receivers, and aural warning sources.
