Berlin Police places order for Rheinmetall Survivor R vehicle
Rheinmetall has received orders from Germany’s Berlin Police for the supply of a specially armoured protected vehicle, Survivor R.
Under the order, which is worth a six-figure euro amount, the vehicle will be manufactured by Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles and modified to meet the requirements of the Operations Directorate.
The vehicle will be delivered in July 2018.
Suitable for conducting police SWAT team-type operations and missions in high-risk situations, the vehicle is used for safe transit of special operators, or for evacuating persons from the danger zone. It can reach a top speed of more than 100km/h.
Built based on a high-performance 4x4 MAN truck chassis, the Survivor R features a steel armour passenger compartment and civilian off-the-shelf and standard military components as well as advanced force protection technology from Rheinmetall.
While the interior of the Survivor R is well lit, the external appearance of the vehicle’s police version is designed to make a deescalating, non-military impression.
Developed in cooperation with Austrian special vehicle maker Achleitner, the vehicle can accommodate and carry up to 11 law enforcement officers and their personal equipment as well as extensive communications and command and control hardware.
The Survivor R is a cost-efficient, easy-to-maintain vehicle with low lifecycle costs and high operational readiness.
Fitted with a ventilation system for filtering out nuclear, biological and chemical agents, the vehicle’s armoured monocoque cab allows installation of add-on protection elements to suit threat situations.
