AS&E to deliver ZBV Systems for law enforcement in Latin America

American Science and Engineering (AS&E) has been awarded a contract to provide its Z Backscatter Van (ZBV) R-Class X-ray screening systems for Latin America.

Under the $2.5m contract, AS&E will deliver ZBV R-Class X-ray screening systems for Latin American law enforcement officials to screen vehicles at checkpoints for explosive threats and contrabands.

AS&E’s president and CEO Anthony Fabiano said, "This customer joins some of the world’s most prestigious government organizations that rely on the ZBV system’s unmatched ability to detect drugs, currency, trade fraud, contraband and stowaways."

Available in three configurations, the ZBV system uses X-ray detection technology and is designed for maximum manoeuvrability.

The system is currently operational with the US Department of Defense, US Customs and Border Protection, Abu Dhabi Customs, Bulgaria Customs, Dutch Customs, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Port of Venice, Tunisian Customs, and Nato member nations.

Additionally, the system is being used by customs security for a Port Authority in Asia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to fight against illegal export.

In addition to providing superior detection capability of explosives, drugs, stowaways, and other contraband, the ZBV system is used to detect vehicle borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs), drugs, stowaways and other contraband in war zones, military bases as well as on ports and borders.

The company has delivered 600 ZBV cargo and vehicle inspection system to more than 120 different customers in 55 countries.
